Circle of Security Parenting
Many of the parents that I work want to know that they are "getting it right" when it comes to their relationship with their children. Circle of Security Parenting is an attachment based parenting approach that teaches caregivers how to identify and meet their child's emotional needs, fostering a secure attachment and reducing behavioural challenges. It helps parents understand that misbehaviour is often a signal of a need for connection, so feelings can settle and organize, and skills can be learned together.
Circle of Security Parenting...
-
Teaches a Map of Attachment: Uses a visual circle diagram to teach parents when to support a child’s exploration (Secure Base) and when to provide comfort (Safe Haven).
-
Builds Skills for Self-Reflection & Regulation: Helps caregivers pause and reflect on their own, and their child’s, emotional state rather than reacting instantly.
-
Focuses on Good Enough Parenting: Promotes secure attachment by emphasizing repairing relationship ruptures rather than aiming for perfection.
-
Improves Empathy: Boosts self-regulation, empathy, and self-esteem in children.
